MEET LILY NIEDERHOFER

Through her youth-led movement, Generation Blue, Lily empowers students worldwide to fight for marine life. Her message has reached thousands through school assemblies, social media, and international media.
WHO IS LILY?
Lily isn’t just a competitive swimmer. She is a fierce advocate for ocean conservation. After learning about Spain’s controversial plan to farm one million octopuses in confined tanks, she took action. She launched the Octo-Defender Challenge, raising $12,000 through a 2km open-water swim, and played a key role in California’s ban on octopus farming (AB 3162). Now, she is pushing for similar legislation in Washington and beyond, believing that where the U.S. leads, Europe follows.

Why Stop Octopus Farming?
They are highly intelligent
Their diet of fish would make farming unsustainable and cruel
They are very fragile and would suffer in captivity
There is no legislation yet to protect their welfare
Washington State already moved ahead with a ban
