CARLOS MALLO MOLINA

Carlos Mallo Molina began his career as a civil and marine engineer, building large-scale infrastructure. However, over time he came to understand that true progress does not lie in imposing structures upon nature, but in working alongside it. Raised by the Cantabrian Sea, his deep connection with the ocean inspired him to found Innoceana, a non-profit organisation that blends science, engineering, and community engagement to protect the planet’s most fragile marine ecosystems.

In 2025, Carlos was awarded the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize for his pivotal role in halting the Fonsalía Port in Tenerife—a megaproject that threatened one of Europe’s most vital marine sanctuaries. His fight, grounded in scientific evidence, citizen mobilisation and sustainable alternatives, proved that development doesn’t have to come at the cost of destruction.

One of the most transformative projects he leads is HOPE – Healthy Oceans Protect Everyone. This initiative brings together participatory science, environmental education, and hands-on conservation to regenerate degraded marine areas. Through HOPE, local communities, researchers, and volunteers collaborate to monitor, protect, and restore key habitats such as seagrass meadows and volcanic reefs in the Canary Islands and other vulnerable coastal regions.

Today, Carlos champions a new vision for coastal development through Nature-based Solutions (NbS), showing that innovation, engineering, and environmental respect can – and must – go hand in hand. His work unites technical expertise with environmental activism, inspiring a new generation of engineers, scientists, and citizens to become stewards of the ocean.

All of this makes Manuel not your typical sustainability expert. He blends cutting-edge foresight and innovation with practical solutions. As a futurist, he’s part of the Strategic Foresight Council of the Circular Economy Alliance and has advised The Long Now Foundation, a Jeff Bezos-funded project focused on thinking 10,000 years ahead. He also explores how AI can support regenerative economies—his latest venture, Viento.ai, is using AI to tackle climate disasters before they happen.

Manuel’s approach is engaging, thought-provoking, and filled with stories that connect big ideas to real-world solutions. He has worked with top organisations like Google, Uber, Salesforce, Santander, LinkedIn, NASA, and the Washington State Government, helping them rethink sustainability in ways that are innovative and achievable.

So, if you’re looking for a speaker who brings vision, passion, and practical strategies to the stage, Manuel is the perfect fit. His talks leave audiences empowered, energised, and ready to make a difference.
